How to start a DPF cleaning business in India

Everything before the sales pitch: what the work actually is, who succeeds at it, what you earn per filter, the space and power you need, the licences to arrange, and what your team has to learn. Read it, then decide.

Your product mix

Four things come through the door

A DPF machine is not a single-service purchase. Each component type is a different customer and a different ticket size.

Car & SCV filters

Car & SCV filters

Your volume business. Most common on Indian roads, blocked mainly by city driving that never completes a regeneration.

Truck DPFs

Truck DPFs

Fewer units, much higher ticket — bigger filters, longer cycles, and fleets that book in batches.

DOC units

DOC units

Oxidation catalysts, often flooded with oil after a turbocharger failure. Common, and rarely serviced anywhere.

SCR & AdBlue

SCR & AdBlue

Urea crystallisation inside the catalyst. Almost nobody in India cleans these — which is exactly why fleets ask.

A workshop cleaning only car DPFs is using a fraction of the machine. The truck side is where the ticket sizes are.
Start Earning Quickly

Four things you need to know before getting started

From startup costs to monthly earnings, here’s what you need to know before you begin.

New to DPF cleaning?

Three things stop most people from starting: infrastructure, skilled labour, inventory. DPF cleaning asks for almost none of them. One machine, your existing bay, your existing team. We handle the training and stay available.

When will I start earning?

You can generate revenue from the first day of operation if you actively take care of promotion while waiting for the machine to be delivered. With the right preparation and customer contacts, you will be ready to provide services from the moment you launch the service.

When can I expect a return on investment?

Usually our customers in Europe are able to pay off the lease installment of the machine after just 4-6 cleanings per month. Each additional cleaned filter is pure profit for you!

How much do I have to invest?

To get started, all you need to do is invest in a machine priced in between 7.5 Lakhs a month (leasing). For this, you need a space of about 30 m² - enough to install the equipment and serve customers comfortably.

DPF service centre
Who does well at this

Four kinds of business that make it work

The pattern is consistent: the ones who succeed already have diesel vehicles or diesel customers. The machine adds a service, rather than starting a business from zero.

Type 01

Multi-brand car garages

You already see BS6 diesel cars every day, and you are currently sending DPF work away or telling customers to visit the dealer. Bringing it in-house captures work you are already touching — no new customer acquisition, faster turnaround, and a margin you keep instead of pass on.

Type 02

Diesel aggregate & reman centres

Turbo, injector and EGR specialists have a natural advantage: a failed turbo floods the DOC and DPF with oil, so the filter needs cleaning as part of the same job. Offering both in one place turns two visits into one invoice.

Type 03

Transport & fleet companies

Fleet owners buy the machine to stop paying for cleaning or replacement on their own vehicles — then discover the spare capacity is worth money. Cleaning for neighbouring workshops turns a cost centre into a revenue line.

Type 04

Dedicated DPF service points

A standalone centre serving other garages rather than end customers. Local workshops send filters to you, fleets book batches, and couriers extend your reach well beyond your own city. This is how the network grows fastest.

The Economics

What One Filter Actually Earns You

Revenue is the easy half. What matters is what survives after the solvent, the labour and the power — so both halves are here.

Per job Car & SCV DPF Truck DPF DOC / SCR
What you charge ₹4,000–₹8,000 Higher — quoted per assembly Quoted per assembly
Cycle time About 150 minutes Longer Longer
Who sends it Walk-ins, garages, taxi fleets Truck garages, fleets, OEM dealers Fleets, reman centres
DPF delete makes a vehicle non-compliant with BS6 emission norms and exposes both owner and workshop to penalties. We do not offer it.

Volume, Honestly

Starting
8–15 filters a month while the local trade learns you exist
Established
15–30 a month with repeat garages and a couple of fleet accounts
Capacity
Machine capacity is rarely the limit at these volumes — demand is
Payback
6–10 months at typical workshop volumes, on a ₹7.5 lakh machine

What comes out of the revenue

Solvent
The largest running cost, and the first number to establish
Labour
One trained technician; the cycle is largely unattended
Utilities
What each cycle draws in power, water and air
Consumables
Gaskets, worn adapters, and waste collection charges
Fixed
Rent, EMI if financed, marketing, taxes
Payback figures are planning estimates, not guarantees. Actual results depend on volume, pricing and local demand.
What you need in place

The setup checklist

Nothing exotic. Most workshops already have three quarters of this — but check all of it before you order a machine, not after.

Premises
  • Around 400 sq ft is enough — machine, soak tank, filter handling and a customer area
  • Covered, ventilated space with a solid floor
  • Drainage point for the machine's water handling
  • Somewhere lockable to store solvent safely
  • No dedicated bay needed — the machine does not occupy a vehicle lift
Infrastructure & Electricity
  • Three-phase power connection [confirm kW load per model]
  • Water supply — recycled inside the machine, so it is refill rather than continuous
  • Compressed air [confirm CFM and pressure]
  • Earthing and a dedicated MCB for the machine
  • Ventilation where solvent is handled
Paperwork
  • Firm or company registration, and GST
  • Municipal trade license / Shop & Establishment registration
  • State Pollution Control Board consent — used solvent and sludge are regulated waste
  • A tie-up with an authorized waste disposal vendor
  • Fire safety and PPE compliance for the working area

Requirements vary by state and municipality. Confirm locally — we help partners prepare the documentation, but we are not your legal advisor.
People & money
  • One technician to train on the machine and the SOP
  • A service advisor who can explain cleaning versus replacement
  • ₹7.5 lakh (Pro / Plus) or ₹11.5 lakh (Supreme), plus GST
  • Working capital for solvent refills and the first months of marketing
  • Equipment finance from a bank or NBFC if you would rather not pay up front
Training

You do not need to already know DPFs

Almost nobody entering this business does — there is no established trade to have learned it from. Training covers the theory, the machine and the customer conversation, on real filters rather than slides.

The hardest part is not operating the machine. It is diagnosing correctly, knowing when a filter cannot be saved, and explaining both to a customer who has just been quoted ₹80,000 by a dealer.

How a DPF works, and why it fails

Filter construction, regeneration, and the four contamination types — soot, ash, fuel residue and oil films.

Diagnosis & measurement

Scan tools, fault codes, backpressure readings, and judging whether a core is recoverable before you quote.

Removal, machine operation & refitting

Hands-on cycles on real filters, plus safe removal without damaging sensors, clamps and gaskets.

Safety, PPE and waste handling

Solvent handling, compressed air safety, and how sludge and used solvent are disposed of legally.

Documentation & job cards

What goes on the worksheet, and how before/after readings become your proof and your marketing.

Selling the job

Explaining cleaning versus replacement honestly, quoting, and handling the customer who wants a delete instead.

What customers will ask for

Six things that win repeat work

Garages and fleets are not comparing your machine. They are comparing how easy you are to deal with.

Pickup & delivery

Collecting the filter from the garage removes the single biggest reason they will not send you work.

Same-day turnaround

The vehicle is on a lift while the filter is with you. Speed is worth more than a discount.

A printed job report

Before and after readings, in writing. Fleets need it for their records and garages use it to justify the bill.

An honest diagnosis

Telling a customer their core is cracked and cleaning will not help earns you the next ten jobs.

Courier acceptance

Filters arriving by courier from other cities extend your market far past your own locality.

Trade rates & a warranty

Regular garages want a standing price and a stated warranty, not a fresh negotiation every filter.

How the machine works

Non-thermal, solvent-based, measured

Heat-based machines risk cracking the ceramic substrate. Water-only flushing moves soot and leaves ash. Our cycle does neither.

Garages first
01

Garages first

Visit the multi-brand workshops around you. They already see clogged filters and have nowhere to send them. Trade work fills a machine faster than walk-ins ever will.

Fleets & taxi operators
02

Fleets & taxi operators

One taxi fleet or transport company can steady an entire month. Offer a free health check on two vehicles and let the readings do the talking.

Your Google listing
03

Your Google listing

A verified Google Business Profile with real photos and reviews is what wins "DPF cleaning near me" locally. It costs nothing and outranks a website for local searches.

Before/after proof
04

Before/after proof

Photograph every filter and keep the readings. A WhatsApp message showing 210 mbar dropping to 30 sells better than any brochure.

Pickup & courier
05

Pickup & courier

Collect filters from garages, and accept couriered filters from other cities. This is how a single centre serves a whole region.

The equipment

Pick the machine that matches your traffic

Buy for the vehicles already coming through your gate, not for the ones you hope will arrive.

Honest Answers

The machine is the main investment — ₹7.5 lakh plus GST for Pro or Plus, ₹11.5 lakh plus GST for the truck-capable Supreme, with installation, adapters, training and starting solvent included. Beyond that you need around 400 sq ft with three-phase power and water, one technician to train, and working capital for solvent and early marketing.

Yes, and most people entering this in India have none — there is no established trade to have learned it from. Training covers filter theory, diagnosis, machine operation, safety, documentation and how to explain the job to a customer. The harder skill is diagnosis and honest advice, not pressing the button.

You can have jobs waiting on the day the machine is commissioned if you spend the delivery window visiting local garages and fleets. Workshops that wait for walk-ins after installation take considerably longer to fill the machine.

At typical car pricing, a modest steady volume covers the machine within 6–10 months. Rather than trusting a headline figure, put your own expected volume, price and running cost into our ROI calculator — and ask us to confirm your real cost per filter first.

You will need normal business registration and GST, a municipal trade licence, and consent from your State Pollution Control Board, because used solvent and sludge are regulated waste requiring an authorised disposal route. Requirements vary by state, so confirm locally. We help partners prepare the documentation, but we are not your legal advisor.

Around 400 sq ft covers the machine, the soak tank, filter handling and a customer area, and the machine does not occupy a vehicle lift. It needs a three-phase connection, water and compressed air. Exact load and air figures are on each model page, and we confirm your site before delivery.

That is how most successful centres fill their machine. Local garages have clogged filters and nowhere to send them, so trade work usually outweighs walk-ins in the first year — and couriered filters from other cities extend the market further.

Most Indian banks and NBFCs finance workshop equipment against the invoice. We do not lend, but we will provide the quotation, specification and a written running-cost model in the format a lender asks for.
